Human League - Sound of the Crowd (Top of the Pops)
Ultravox - Vienna (Whistle Test I think)
PSBs – Opportunities (Whistle Test)
1 - Whenever I listen to most early PSB songs, that becomes my all time favourite. Later it relaxes back to the defaults of either Can You Forgive Her or What Have I Done To Deserve This.
2 - My proto anti-rockism was offended when PSBs announced they were doing live shows, and I carried that with me for some time. Then I lightened up and realised there was much fun in brilliant performers and a crowd of people who wanted to see a performance. (Still not a big fan of gigs tho.)
3 - I went to college in 87 and was stunned by many of my undergraduate peers writing off PSBs as Thatcherite yuppy sympathisers, not realising that Opportunities was clearly filled with ironic venom. (istr a recent-ish ILM thread revealing otherwise clever ppl still not seeing this)
